What is PulseWire?
PulseWire is an interactive website where women worldwide, including those using internet cafes in rural areas, can speak for ourselves to the world and collaborate to solve global problems.
PulseWire is developing tools that enable women and allies to support each other across borders by telling our stories, exchanging resources, sharing solutions and collaborating in groups.
PulseWire is produced by the non-profit global media organization, World Pulse, which was founded in 2003 by international journalist, Jensine Larsen, to broadcast the voices and solutions of women worldwide.
What does it cost me to join?
Absolutely nothing. PulseWire is a free service, available to all who have interest and willingly abide by our Community Culture Guidelines and our terms of service.
Can my organization join PulseWire?
Yes! PulseWire is designed to bring organizations and individuals supporting women's empowerment together across the globe. Your organization can easily create a presence on PulseWire by bringing members online and using our Groups feature for discussion and collaboration. Upload your organization's logo and fill out a group profile to share your mission and work with our community. Members of your organization can also create their own individual profiles on PulseWire if they choose, and link to your organization's main account. What our community sees is up to you!
Why are you targeting women? Why now?
"The creative potential of women is the earth's greatest untapped resource." —Jensine Larsen, PulseWire founder
Women are drastically underrepresented in international media and top economic and decision-making positions. Yet the world's leaders now recognize that empowering women is the fastest way to solve global problems. At this moment in history, we stand together—women and men—on the cusp of unleashing the world's greatest untapped resource.
Your generous donations support our success!
I already belong to another social networking site. Why should I join PulseWire?
As our community builds on PulseWire, you will literally have the opportunity to enter "a new world" created by the often unheard voices of leading women and allies around the world. Unlike other social networking sites, on PulseWire you can add your voice to a new, dynamic global women's culture and make connections that can transform your life, and the lives of others.
How can I get my story featured by World Pulse?
Our editors are active on the site, sourcing stories for our monthly, thematic emagazine. We encourage self-publishing, but also recognize the value and opportunity traditional media coverage can bring to an organization, leader, or cause. If your content is chosen by an editor as eligible for inclusion, our editorial department will contact you and work with you to further develop your piece. You always retain the right to opt out of inclusion in any World Pulse editorial project.
How will women in remote and impoverished areas access PulseWire?
We believe that the power of a tool depends on who can use it. That's why our team is equally committed to making technological innovations more accessible to women and girls globally.
We are starting with leaders of existing grassroots networks and community groups. Many of them are just beginning to use Internet cafes or shared computers. We believe that providing these leaders with a trusted, centralized space for collaborative learning and resource sharing will set in motion a positive cycle of empowerment.
After listening to the needs of our founding community members, we will begin inviting partners to the site who bring the resources, training and expertise that our community says is needed most. As we partner with pioneering technology companies, we will increase our capacity to offer our community the skills and tools needed to overcome the digital divide.

English is not my first language... Is PulseWire for me?
PulseWire is committed to offering top translation applications as soon as we possibly can. The most promising of these, however, are not yet available to the public. In the meantime, use Google Translate to roughly translate web pages into the most popular languages. You'll find the translate feature located next to the search bar in the top right corner of every PulseWire page.
Here are some tips for making content accessible:
- Be patient and helpful in your online communications. Show respect for the differences and difficulties that can arise due to language barriers.
- Tag content in more than one language to make it available to a wider audience.
- If you are multilingual, offer your expertise on ResourceExChange and translate your own content when possible.
- Facilitate language learning by posting manuals and lesson plans in SharingSolutions.

Does PulseWire offer grants, micro-loans or other types of funding?
PulseWire is an open forum for communication and resource sharing. We do not directly provide funding or offer grants or loans. However, our goal is for you to find what you need on our site. If you have a financial need, we encourage you to post it on our ResourceExChange board and fill out a complete member profile. Remember, the more information you provide about yourself and your needs, the more likely you’ll be to receive a supportive response from within the community.
What about my privacy?
Our team is committed to protecting your need for privacy. We will not provide or sell information about you to any outside partners.
Though we encourage transparency in online interactions, we understand that some users will want to keep their identity private. For this reason, we’ve created a flexible member profile that allows you to choose how much personal information you share with the community. You can use the site anonymously, of course, but be aware that the community is much more like to respond to the needs of members who are known and trusted. If your need for discretion/privacy prevents you from finding what you need on ResourceExChange, you may contact our Online Community Manager to find out how we can help.
I have suggestions for improvements to the site. Who should I share them with?
We welcome your engagement and participation during our exciting beta phase. We aren't able to implement all suggestions, of course, but we promise you — your comments will be heard and considered as we implement additional features and improved design.
In our next phase of development, we plan to combine the latest advances in digital mapping, translation tools, web publishing, micro-credit transfers, movement building and human rights documentation, making them compatible with the realities of women's lives.
