Women's Networking Zone (HIV/AIDS)

Building Alliances and Bridging Movements: Addressing Gender-based Violence and HIV

The Women's Networking Zone on PulseWire is a virtual networking zone for global discussions and strategy sharing among women and groups focusing on HIV/AIDS and cross-cutting issues such as violence against women, poverty, gender inequity, etc.

We invite any member of the PulseWire community to participate, and extend a special invitation to HIV+ women and grassroots leaders working on issues related to HIV/AIDS.

This virtual Women's Networking Zone (WNZ)for HIV/AIDS is modeled after the offline WNZones that were created in recent years at the biannual International AIDS Conferences, as well as at the recent Kenya 2007 summit in Nairobi. The Athena Network, (www.athenanetwork.org) is a coalition of different frontline groups working on the intersection of HIV/AIDS and gender-based violence, and has been a key coordinator of the WNZs, along with collaborators from members of Athena such as Blueprint for Action against HIV/AIDS (in Canada), and ICW -- the International Coalition of Women Living with HIV/AIDS.

The co-moderators for this group are Athena members Tyler Crone, and Anne-christine d'Adesky.

We invite WNZ participants to suggest topics for discussion, and we will initiate some discussions here in the coming period. We will focus, among other topics, on the upcoming International AIDS Conference in Mexico City, Mexico, in August 2008.

Adelante!
